Whilst the Freiburg Baroque Orchestra premiered at the Proms in 2007 alongside the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, this historic concert marks the orchestra’s first exclusive performance on Royal Albert Hall’s mainstage.
Come celebrate this wonderful achievement of our beloved Freiburg!
Enjoy the dynamic Freiburg Baroque Orchestra as it brings authentic period-instrument colour to three of Mendelssohn’s best-loved orchestral works:
Violinist Isabell Faust will feature as soloist in Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto—
the composer’s last completed orchestral work and perhaps the loveliest of all
the Romantic violin concertos.
The 500th anniversary of the Reformation continues to be marked with Mendelssohn’s Fifth Symphony whose final movement quotes movingly from Luther’s chorale “Ein feste Burg ist unser Gott.”
The concert opens with the composer’s glorious overture The Hebrides, inspired by a visit to Fingal’s Cave on the Scottish Isle of Staffa.
It would be great to have you as a part of this very special event.
I look forward to greeting you there.
Kind regards,
Daniel Celentano
