University of Freiburg March for Science: 2500 Demonstrate for the Freedom of Science

Rector Professor Schiewer and the University Senate called upon scientists, students, alumni, members, and friends of the university and other research institutions in the region to take part in the “March for Science” on 22 April. More than 2500 people, including many alumni, responded to the invitation and participated in the march, making the Freiburg demonstration the largest in Baden-Württemberg.» more

Dr. Johannes Minuth

Whatever happened to... Johannes Minuth?

Dr. Johannes Minuth studied German and geography at the University of Freiburg from 1980 to 1995 and earned a PhD in German studies. Instead of going on to become a teacher, however, he founded the puppet theater “Freiburger Puppenbühne” – an institution that enjoys success well beyond the borders of the region and brings pleasure to an audience of children and adults alike with its great passion and spirit.

South Baden Alumni Club Explores World under the University

The members of the South Baden chapter of Alumni Freiburg e.V. had the chance to see some of the little-known underground spaces at the university – like the rector’s former fallout shelter and the “James Bond tunnel” – on an unusual guided tour by Dr. Jürgen Steck. There are good reasons why this world is not usually open to the public.

Students in Malawi

Alumni Freiburg e.V. Supports Student Scholarship Project for Malawi

The purpose of the project "Duwa-lofunga" is to organize and fund scholarships for school students in Malawi, a republic in southeast Africa. Alumni Freiburg e.V. made a donation to the project, which was initiated by the young medical student Philipp Müller as a means of enabling more students to receive a good school education. Müller expresses his thanks for the donation and reports on the project in the following letter.

Alumni Freiburg e.V. Supports Student Debate Tournament in Freiburg

The "Black Forest Cup" debate tournament was held in Freiburg on 5–6 November. It brought together 60 debaters from across Germany to lock horns in a display of rhetorical skill. The tournament received financial support from Alumni Freiburg e.V.
